As December 21 gets closer and closer, people’s fears about a possible doomsday grow. Many believe that with the end of the Mayan calendar will come the end of the world. Some still continue to make predictions about the mythic event, spreading panic all over the globe. There are various theories about the possible outcome of the Apocalypse. Some say that the Earth will collide with a mysterious planet called Nibiru or a comet. Others predict that a massive solar storm will destroy the world we know.

Despite the fact that there is no scientific evidence that points to an upcoming Armageddon, many people are already buying survival essentials, kits and even shelters.

The U.S.

In the United States people afraid of the Apocalypse are investing in expensive shelters located all over the country. In fact, the demand for such covers is so high, that shelter building and selling has turned into an entire business. According to the manufacturers of these shelters, they can keep you save in case of radiation, electromagnetic pulses, solar flares and the list goes on for miles.

Russia

The Apocalypse panic also hit Russia. However, the panic there varies in the different regions of the country. In Omutninsk a newspaper article by a monk from Tibet made the local people believe that the world will actually end. Now they are building up reserves of kerosene and other supplies. In Barnaul, on the other hand, people will rely mainly on Thermos flasks and torches in case of an Apocalypse.

The situation in Russia went so out of control, that even Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had to make a statement on the subject.

China

In the past, China showed little interest in predictions about the end of the world. However, that changed after the movie 2012 took the theatres in the country and became super popular in China. Even though that the movie was shown three years ago, Chinese people still seem to be under its influence. Nowadays, the local police reported a rise in scams involving the end of the world. Swindlers are telling pensioners to give them their saving as a final act of good.

France

The people of one small French village have an interesting theory about the Mayan Armageddon. The mayor of Bugarach has somehow convinced the villagers that the aliens will come and save them when doomsday strikes on December 21. For that purpose, the French mayor has put a ban on UFO watching, as well as the flying of all small planes. The plan of the villagers is to climb the local mountain and wait for the extraterrestrials to come and get them.

What Does NASA Say?

NASA is rejecting all theories and rumours that predict Armageddon. The space agency tries to prove the world that there is no danger of planet collision, magnetic poles disruption and etc. NASA reports a disturbing new trend in which young teenagers and even children call the agency and say that they plan to commit a suicide because of the end of the world. However, NASA is attacked by many conspiracy theorists who claim that the agency is covering the upcoming Apocalypse.

What Did the Mayans Say?

Although many think that the Mayan calendar predicted the Earth’s Armageddon, the Mayans actually did not believe in the end of the world. In fact, the ancient civilization was convinced that after December 21, the world will enter in a new cycle.
