monsters-incWondering what to do tonight, or how to spend the weekend in Dubai? Is it impossible to reserve a table at your favourite restaurant? Don’t give up; you can always check the movie theatres. This week, there are several amazingly good movies which will make you laugh, cry and leave you breathless.

One of the most anticipated films that make its world premiere this week is the cartoon Despicable Me 2. This is a film that has the perfect mix of humor for children and adults, so if you want to have a family night out, we totally recommend it! It’s an absolutely gorgeous and cute sequel to Despicable Me and some good news for the fans – our favourite minions here are even more! They are so hilarious, that you might well find yourself crying with laughter! But the minion madness is just one of the charms of this movie – the fact that the protagonist, Gru, is actually a villain makes the story more refreshing and fun to watch. Well, here Gru is not a villain anymore. He’s in love and a part of the Anti-Villain League. The visual effects and the animation are also amazing. So, as it is far more than just a kids’ cartoon, get a 3D glasses and enjoy this 98-minute entertaining adventure!

Another cartoon that you should definitely see, is the prequel to Monsters Inc. which includes the voices of legendary Billy Crystal (Mike), John Goodman (Sully), Steve Buscemi and Hellen Mirren. The move is great – it’s collaboration between Pixar and Disney, after all. Here the story tells us about how Mike and Sullivan met at the university and how they became friends. It’s not only a comedy, because there are both funny and sentimental moments and themes about college life, what the future holds and whether dreams can come true one day. Monsters University is the perfect family movie – you will laugh a lot, and the kids will love it. And if you haven’t seen Monsters Inc., watch the 2013 part first, so you can get the whole story.

If you need a little distraction of every-day chores, White House Down will provide it. It is full of excitement, action and CGI effects. It has a lot of shooting, running and explosions, so if you like huge spectacles as in Independence Day or The Day After Tomorrow (both by the same director, Roland Emmerich) you will love this one. White House Down starts with Cale (Channing Tatum) and his job interview for the Secret Service. After a disappointing denial, he decides to take his little daughter on a tour of the White House. Unfortunately, the building is overtaken by in-house terrorists, and Cale remains the only one who can save the President (Jamie Foxx) and his little girl. And if you think that blowing up the White House to bits (an idea that worked quite well in many movies) is entertaining, go ahead and watch it.

Still haven’t got the opportunity to see After Earth? Well, the sci-fi adventure action/drama, as most people would describe it, is a must-see for every fan of Will Smith and the sci-fi genre. It also stars Smith’s son – Jaden, so we have a chance to see if the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Another Superman movie was recently released, Man of Steel with Henry Cavill (Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe. It’s a darker and more violent version of Superman, but still a wonderful story, so even the biggest Marvel fans should see it!
