Najmuddeen Meera Hussain, the owner of Around the World Clocks and Gifts (ATW) applied to the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest and longest flag record.
The UAE flag which is planned to weigh 107 tons and measure 500,000 square meters will be displayed by the Ajman Municipality on December 2, the UAE’s 41st National Day.
Hussain’s company has been in the flag making business since 1981. Their production can be seen on a number of government and private buildings. Earlier they announced an estimated budget for the making the flag in amount of Dh11.75million. Latest calculations, however, show that the funding must be raised. The project should be completed in less than a month with 2,000 hired workers. All raw materials were already brought in from Europe and China.
The current world record for the largest unfurled flag is held by Lebanon. According to the 2010 record, the flag measures 65,975 square meters.
The Sharjah, the government revealed that it would build a giant 123 meters flagpole for the UAE’s 41st National Day. According to Mr. Hussain, however, the 107 tons flag would be too heavy to be flown. The venue for the official unveiling is yet to be decided.
The great initiative by Around the World Clocks and Gifts will largely contribute not only to UAE reputation but also to Mr. Hussain’s company business profile. It will also add another UAE record to the Guinness Book of World Records.
