The grace period given to UAE nationals to enroll their names in the Population Register and ID Card (PRIDC) ends on Monday, 31st of October.

This is also the deadline for all residents to renew their ID cards or they will face delay fees, the authority said. The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) had earlier clarified that no delay fees would be imposed on children under 15 years before Oct.1, 2012.

Eida emphasised that the receipt that a customer receives after registering for the ID card would exempt him/her from delay fees, provided that the registration procedures would be completed on time at Eida service points. The receipt also allows all transactions to be completed at government entities, which are currently making it conditional for customers to present their ID cards for completion of their transactions.

As per the cabinet’s decision No.52 for 2011 related to the fees imposed on services provided by Eida, delay fees are set at Dhs20 per day with a cap at Dhs1,000.

Delay fees will be imposed in the following circumstances: Delay in registration or issuance of identity cards for all categories and age groups in renewing ID cards for all categories and ages and in reporting any change or modification in the cardholder’s personal data for all categories and age groups.

Registration fees for issuance or renewal of ID cards for UAE nationals and GCC citizens are Dhs70 in addition to Dhs70 in service fees. Residents need to pay Dhs100 for each year their residency visa is valid and Dhs70 as service fees.

The application of late fee for expatriates (above 15 years) for getting registered with the PRIDC will be implemented in four phases as follows:

Phase l: All expatriates in the Northern Emirates (Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman), in addition to all employees in the federal and local public sector and semi-government organisations and their families — from Dec.1.

Phase II: All expatriates in Sharjah – from Feb.1, 2012

Phase III: All expatriates in Abu Dhabi – from April 1, 2012

Phase IV: All expatriates in Dubai – from June 1, 2012.
