Therefore, commuters will have the chance to make their first trip with the Dubai Tram a day after its official opening.

Dubai Tram is also expected be among the cheapest modes of transportation not only in the city, but also in the world. A Silver class ride will cost only AED 3, whereas a Gold class ride will be priced at AED 6. In addition, Nol cards “etiquette” will be slightly different with Dubai Tram. It will involve ticket validation similar to that with buses. Nevertheless, that will not happen inside the tram but at validation boots located at the stations. Commuters who want to apply for a Blue Nol card can do that through the web, RTA’s official mobile application or through ticket office machines located at bus stations and the metro.

Also, for the first time, both UAE nationals and expat senior citizens will get a 50% discount on fares. Previously, the special pricing was available only for Emiratis. Students will also enjoy similar discounts.

Dubai Tram will cover a route of 10.6 km and 11 stations. Its starting point will be Dubai Police Academy in Al Sufouh and it will run to Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach residence and back to Dubai Police Academy.

The tram will operate between 5.30 a.m. and midnight. This means that it will not offer a non-stop service. Although the tram’s maximum speed is 50km/h, it will travel with an average speed of 30 km/h.

The capacity of the Dubai Tram is 405 passengers. It has sevens cabins which will be divided into three travel classes – Silver, Gold, as well as Women and Children. Each of them will be properly equipped for passengers with disabilities.

Meanwhile, it was also announced that RTA will continue with the construction of the second phase of the Dubai Tramway project. Once finished, it will add another four kilometers to Dubai Tram’s route and build a link to the Mall of the Emirates.
