Dubai International is one of the fastest growing airports in the world. This fact was revealed by Airports Council International in its latest report. The research found that the airport in Dubai is the seventh busiest in the world. This means that Dubai International advanced by three spots in just twelve months.

According to the Airports Council International, the passenger traffic at Dubai’s main airport increased by more than 15% in 2013. In addition, exerts behind the study share that last year Dubai International managed to “make its mark.” Moreover, experts even predict that the airport will continue its rise in 2014 and stand up to its reputation as a main travel hub that links the East and the West.

Dubai International ranked even higher on the cargo traffic list. There, it also showed a massive growth of 6.8% for just a year. However, the most impressive jump in this category belongs to Abu Dhabi International Airport. It witnessed a double-digit growth of 24.1% over the last twelve months.

For the most part, however, the 2013 ranking of the world’s busiest airports remained pretty much unchanged. The first six spots are the same as those on last year’s list. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is still the busiest airport. However, Beijing Capital International Airport is quickly catching up and it may close the gap this year. The third and the fourth positions again go to Tokyo’s Haneda and Chocago’s O’Hare, respectively.

Hong Kong International Airport maintains its top spot on the cargo traffic ranking. It even saw a rise of 2.2% in 2013. Also in the top five in this list are Memphis International Airport (2), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (3) and Incheon International Airport (4).
