Things parents shouldn’t Forget to provide for their students

Summer is almost over which means “Back to school, kids!” and “Time to spend, parents!” We can all agree that the back to school time is hated by most people in Dubai. Children have to write homeworks, teachers have to teach and parents have to spend some time and lots of money to prepare their kids for school.
Apart from the money issue, there’s something else that may prove rather difficult. Deciding what you need to buy is not always easy. There are a few items that parents tend forget to get. That is why we made a short list of back to school things that student need to have when school days roll in.

Backpack on the Back

The backpack is probably the most important thing on the list. Children need one to carry their books and school items in it. Therefore, the backpack can get very heavy. So try to find one that will feel more comfortable on your kid’s back. Many backpacks have gel straps or gel layer that make the book carrying less painful. Also, make sure you buy a backpack that would last longer. To do that you should be ready to spend some extra. It would be good if the bag has lots of compartments and pockets. In that way your child will easily organize its books and other items. Another thing you should keep in mind is that the backpack should be weatherproof.

Lunch Time

The next item on our list is the Lunch Kit or Lunchbox. If the school of your child doesn’t have a canteen or a little food shop, then you would have to send some snacks from home. It is not a good idea to put the lunch in the backpack, because the food may spill turn everything into a mess. Even if your child already has one, you need to check its condition. The more they are used, the more disgusting they look. So make sure get a new one every one or two years.

Dress to Impress

Clothes and school uniforms are also important. As you are perfectly aware, kids grow, especially during the summer. Therefore, last year’s wardrobe won’t work! When you shop for clothes, always take the children! It is never a good idea to try and guess their size. Also, there is always the possibility that kids may not like the clothes you got them. Yes, we know you find this checked shirt adorable, but you are not the one who is going to wear it, right? Make sure you buy your kid some socks, shirts, shoes and a sports uniform.

Pen Up

Today there are many types of pens and pencils that come in different shapes, colours and prices. However, keep it simple and traditional. Usually, the more ‘traditional’ pens last longer and have a better quality.

Do the Maths

See whether your child would need a calculator. If it is to young you may leave it for the next year. Also, check with the school. Some schools do not allow calculators. There is no need to spend a lot on that item. Well, unless your child is in a special science class.

Draw the Line

One thing that parents often forget to buy is a ruler. This item is not that crucial to have, however, it is very useful. It will help your kids organize their writing space, measure things and, of course, use it do write their Maths homeworks. You can buy a plastic ruler, but it is very easy to break. Our advice is to go with a metal one. Is costs a little more but it also lasts a little longer.

Cut the Cord

Some schools allow the use of scissors. However, some have an anti-scissors politics. So, again, check with the school. If you need to buy scissors choose a smaller type.

Technology Will Save the World

Today many class and homework activities require the use of computers. Therefore, it will come handy if your child has a USB or a flash drive. Kids can easily store and transfer files on such a device. We advise you to attach it to a string or lanyard. In that way your child is less likely to lose it.

Keep Note

Very important are also the notebooks. Avoid buying multiple-subject spiral notebook, unless you have to. These notebooks are too big and heavy. In addition, it is very doubtful that your kid will fill all these pages.

Here’s a quick list of some optional items:

  • Glue
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Binder
  • Highlighters
  • Crayons
  • Eraser/White-out
  • Pencil case/Storage Box
  • Lined Paper
  • Hand sanitizer

The best thing you can do before you go out shopping is make a list. In that way you won’t miss anything important. Also, check with the school and the teachers. Ask them about the items they would require. Don’t forget to mentally prepare for the spending! Good luck, parents!
