Dubai Sports City’s Summer of Sport gets underway this Friday with the DSC Indoor Junior Football League. The tournament, which will run on Fridays until the end of June, is the first to be held at DSC’s new state-of-the-art Football Dome at the Academies Campus.
The air-conditioned facility which houses a full-sized artificial pitch – believed to be the only one of its type in the UAE – means football can beat the heat and go on throughout the summer months, whatever the outdoor temperature.
This first tournament will involve under-eight, under-10 and under-12 teams, and other events and activities across all of DSC’s range of sports will be announced in due course.
Commenting on the launch of the DSC Indoor Junior Football League, DSC’s Director of Football at the Football Academy Michel Salgado said: “The fact youngsters are using our newly-opened, state-of-the-art Football Dome is a perfect illustration of what Dubai Sports City is all about.
“Our facilities are designed for elite athletes and we have already seen English Premier League side Swansea City and Russian Premier League team Anzhi Makhachkali make full use of them.
“But at the same time these facilities are also available for use by everyone and this tournament illustrates that fact. We are looking forward to hosting the action this summer.” General Manager – Sports Business Maqbul Dudhia said: “Dubai Sports City is now developing rapidly and from a footballing perspective that development is illustrated not only by the opening of the Dome which is hosting this tournament but also by Michel Salgado’s appointment as Director of Football at our Academy.
“Dubai Sports City is an exciting place to be at the moment and we hope the youngsters who are involved in this tournament will relish their experience of playing here.” Anyone wishing to obtain further details of the opportunities to play at Dubai Sports City during the summer can contact DSC Football Academy coach Adam Griffiths on +971557461163.
