Ministry of Education passes new code of conduct

The Minister of Education, Humaid Al Qattami, has approved a code of student conduct and instructed school managements to play their role implementing regulations that maintain stability of the school community and safeguard its from any alien and strange behaviours.

The enhanced student behavioural discipline code was designed with the aim of promoting good conduct and countering bad behaviour.

”The Ministry of Education has placed the student at the centre of its development initiatives as the real asset of the country, and is striving – by all means – to build his balanced and ambitious character and plant positive values and behaviours to groom him as a good citizen who is confident of himself and conscious of the concerns of his nation and capable of delivering the aspiration of his nation,” the minister affirmed.

He added that regulations and mechanisms of the new code of conduct were stemmed out of the ministry’s commitment to create a modern learning environment for students, teachers, administrators and parents alike.

”The new rules on student discipline aim to enhance a positive and constructive paradigm of values, principles and trends and provide for a proper learning ambience that offers ideal opportunities for cultivating balanced relations among students themselves from one side and students and their teachers and other school staff and parents on the other side,”he stressed.

The 20-article code seeks to check the students’ behaviour within the school community in a manner that provides a terms of reference for defining rules, measures and criteria that should be taken to evolve a safe learning environment adhering to school values and systems.

Other objectives of the code include fostering and enhancing positive behaviours of students, check students’ misconduct acts by all possible educational approaches and introducing transparent methods for educators to address and handle students’ behaviour.

To improve behaviour in schools, the up-to-date code defines punitive measures the school should take against unruly students and sets procedures for complaints.
