Dubai Judicial Institute, a leading centre for legal studies and judicial training in Dubai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with International House Dubai (IH Dubai), a leader in language education and teacher development and part of the International House World Organisation (IHWO), to deliver training towards the Test of Legal English Skills (TOLES) examination for judges in Dubai.

IH Dubai is accredited by the Ministry of Education and is at the forefront in teacher training and development, currently offering the full range of University of Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards. IH Dubai is also a Cambridge Exam Centre offering tests for Young Learners through to professional English qualifications such as the Business English Certificates (BEC). IH Dubai is also one of two agents in the country offering BULATS (Business Language Testing Service) in four languages.

Dr. Judge Jamal Hussein Alsumaiti, Director General of DJI, said: “This partnership is part of our continuing programs to boost the performance and maintain the high level of standards in the judiciary. We will take advantage of the specialised expertise and resources of International House Dubai to complement our language education program and achieve our ultimate goal of judicial excellence.”

“We are delighted to be entering into a long and rewarding partnership with such a prestigious organisation as the Dubai Judicial Institute, where we share similar goals and commitment to being the best in our fields,” stated Clair Hattle, Director of Studies at IH Dubai.

Under the MoU, IH Dubai will collaborate with DJI, to deliver TOLES exam preparation for judges, with the first course scheduled to be delivered in October 2010.
The TOLES exams are at the forefront of the world’s Legal English exams, which are widely recognized by international law firms and the Law Society of England and Wales as providing a clear benchmark of the holder’s level of competence in legal English.

Knowledge Network, the sister company of International House – Dubai, will also collaborate with DJI and IH to deliver a targeted mix of accredited and non-accredited soft skills courses. Knowledge Network prides itself on being able to help bridge the gap between the current skills of their clients’ staffs and the level required for optimum performance.

“We are certainly honored to be chosen by Dubai Judicial Institute to help their organization reach stellar performance levels,” commented Pam Bilsdon, Director of Training at Knowledge Network.

This MoU and collaboration between the two parties clearly reflects the missions of both: for DJI, to be a leader in the legal arena; and for IH Dubai to continue striving to raise language education standards in the region.

The International House World Organisation (IHWO) has more than 140 affiliate schools in over 40 different countries, teaching 19 different languages and has been established for more than 57 years. Each school adheres to the rigorous quality management systems of IHWO.
