Technology That May Soon Disappear

The tech industry is currently one of the fastest changing industry sectors in the world. New devices and software are released on the market every day. Consumers now have various models to choose from depending on their price, specs and quality. This is not something new. It has been going on for a few years now. It is like a never-ending cycle that keeps rolling. In it, one technology is replaced by a new better one. Some tech inventions disappear so fast that they even don’t get to enjoy the 48-hours media attention span fame.

There are no signs that this process will end any time near. Moreover, pretty soon, some of the most popular devices may see their last days. Here are the top 5 types of devices that will disappear in couple of years:

Laptops

There is no doubt about it, laptops are an excellent invention. They are powerful, portable and multifunction. However, tablets are starting to serious challenge these devices. They are also multifunctional, but they are more portable than laptops and may soon become more powerful than them. Tech companies recently stopped producing netbooks and laptops may be next one to go.

Flash Drives

They are portable and easy to use. In addition, their memory capacity is expanding with every year. So why would they disappear? The answer is simple: cloud services will take over. People will no longer need to carry a number of flash drives wherever they go. They will rely entirely on clouds. This service is more convenient than USB drives since it can connect all the devices of the user and store all the files from them in one place. After that, these files can be accessed from any other device or place. Clouds now gain more and more popularity and flash drives doesn’t seem to have much time left.

eBook Readers

These devices are relatively new. In addition, their display technology is very innovative and they are very portable. The problem is that they are not multifunctional. Even the most advanced eBook readers have limited functions. Tablets, on the other hand, can be used for pretty much anything – from reading, writing, online browsing and listening to music to film watching, video recording, picture taking and gaming. However, if manufacturers add some new functions to the eBook, it may stick for a few more years.

iPhones

Are you surprised? Well, you shouldn’t be. All things come to an end and iPhones are no exception. Recently, there have been various reports that the manufacturing orders for iPhone have dropped dramatically. That may be due to the fact that there are many new high-tech smartphones which are cheaper than Apple’s mobile device. In addition, the iPhone lineup is not diverse like those of Samsung or Nokia, for example.

Physical Media

This is already in motion. Physical media like CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and etc. are dying away. Who are we to blame? The Cloud and the Internet. This is a lethal combination for physical media. The latest tech devices on the market support Internet connection. These are, for instance, Blu-ray players and new-gen TVs. Consumers no longer need to buy, rent or record CDs and DVDs to enjoy their favourite movies, music, games and all the other sorts of media content. Now they can simply connect their device to the web and grab whatever they need from the Cloud.

So no matter whether you like it or not, some technologies will be replaced by new ones. The trends that will take over in the near future will include multifunctional devices, Internet connectivity and data clouds.
