  • Partnership with IPE to benchmark investment in human resources by organisations in the UAE
  • New award will be part of the Annual Business Excellence Award ceremony

The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has joined hands with International Performance Excellence (IPE), a UAE-based research and training consultancy, to launch the ‘International Investors in People’ standard, which will drive human resources development across private and public sector organisations in the UAE.

The objective of the partnership is to identify and encourage best practices in human resources development. IPE, in association with the Business Excellence Department of DED, will launch a new award ‘Investors in People UAE,’ to recognise organisations that lead by example in investing in people.

The new award will complement the Dubai Quality Award, Dubai Human Development Award, and the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme of DED and will be distributed at the prestigious annual Business Excellence Award ceremony.

“We introduced the Dubai Human Development Award in 2002 and since then it has remained a model initiative in empowering Emirati talent, by encouraging their skills development and career progression. The new award underscores the inevitable link between employee performance and organisational excellence,” said Mr Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development, DED.

“The award builds on DED’s efforts to inculcate a culture of quality and an economy based on excellence through its people, as envisioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” added Ibrahim.

The new award, besides recognising best practices, will enable organisations in the UAE to benefit from a range of training, networking and capacity building programmes and get accredited under the international “Investors in People” (IIP) framework, UK.

“Investors in People” is a leading business improvement tool and international quality standard with demonstrated capabilities in enhancing employee performance. Developed in the UK two decades ago, IIP has since then proved to be of great value in helping organisations cope with change and economic uncertainties and has set a level of good practice for improving an organisation’s performance through its people. IIP is about results – not procedures. It is a practical tool for the continuous improvement of both the organisation and all its people.

“DED will strongly support organisations that invest in their people because such investment will have a far-reaching impact on overall competitiveness. We are confident that the new award, like the other similar initiatives launched by DED earlier, will be successful in further integrating international best practices in human development into the public and private sectors in the UAE,” said Mohammed Juma Bushnain Al Amri, Executive Director of Corporate Quality and Management Excellence at DED.

As the exclusive licensee to work in IIP in the UAE, International Performance Excellence will work with DED to raise awareness on this standard through a series of seminars, encourage best practices in human development and IIP accreditation among organisations. Only IIP-accredited organisations will be considered for the new award.

Dr. Alaa Garad, CEO, IPE, said: “International Performance Excellence was granted exclusive partnership rights with IIP International to work and implement the Investors In People Standard in the UAE. The standard is directly linked to the organization’s strategy, and rooted in an alignment between training activities, learning and strategic objectives of the organization, all the while providing the organisation with a means of measuring the impact of their investments in those areas and to make decisions accordingly. Scores of studies have been conducted on the IIP Standard and proved that the effective application of such a standard is a significant contributor to increasing employee productivity and cost-savings for the organisation.”
