Therefore, if you have some skill in this area, you should definitely try out this idea.

Web Designer

App developers will certainly enjoy more popularity compared to web designers this year. However, this does not mean that web developers will go out of job. Quite the opposite, in fact. Websites have started to change and companies prefer to either adopt a more simplistic interface or to launch a mobile-friendly version of their website. This is where web designers come to the rescue.

Event Planner

This may sound like an ambitious business. However, the truth is that it does not have to be one. Do not aim at planning big events like weddings or anniversaries. Instead, you can simply focus on kids’ birthday parties, for example. Many parents are willing to spend a lot on their children’s birthdays. In addition, they will be more than willing to leave all the planning and organizing to someone else. This person could easily be you!

Homemade Product Seller

If your hobby is to paint, knit or some other craft, you should take the opportunity and to turn it into your business this year. Make a decent amount of handmade items and start selling them. If you have troubles finding customers, simply sell your work online. In 2014, there will be a great demand for homemade products. Use this to your advantage.

Home-Based or Online Teacher

This is always a good idea, given that you excel in some area like mathematics, language, music and etc. However, keep in mind that online courses can be a little more profitable. That is because they come at a slightly higher price and are hugely popular now. They offer flexibility not only to you, but also for your students. Those, who are willing to start an online training business, can use one of the many online platforms for that. There you will easily find many potential clients. If, on the other hand, you prefer to have more independence, you can connect to your students via VoIP services, for instance.

Green Consultant

Businesses are not only trying to go mobile, but they are also doing their best to become green. There are a few reasons for that, including state policies, cost reduction, as well as to attract more clients. Until recently, green practices were adopted mainly by large corporations. However, in 2014, even small business will want to go green. That is why the demand for green consultants will jump over the next few months. A home-based green consultancy company will be the best choice for them. It is cheaper, local, yet very efficient.

It is true that most of these home-based small business ideas will require some extra knowledge. However, they are expected to be reasonably profitable this year. So, if you have that knowledge, now is the time to turn it into a home-based business.

    2) I plan to source the items from home/online/craft fairs and hence, am not looking to rent any office space.

Any clarification on this would be helpful.
