Samsung Galaxy S3 Gets a Big Update before S4 Release

Tomorrow is the day on which Samsung will introduce its new smartphone, Galaxy S4, to the world. The expectations are big, the information – not so much. What is interesting, however, is that the South Korean company does not seem to want to send its S3 phone to the archives yet. In fact, the manufacturer may be planning to update some of the device’s features, including its screen, battery and charging.

The source of this news is the journalist Eldar Murtazin. He posted the information on Twitter without offering many details. Murtazin only states that Samsung Galaxy S3 will get a better screen, a more powerful battery, as well as wireless charging.

Samsung so far did not release any comments on the news.

Possible Updates

As we have already mentioned, Murtazin’s tweet does not reveal much about the updates. So we can only make assumptions here. The journalist says that Galaxy S3 will get a better screen. That would most probably mean that the smartphone will support a higher resolution. Currently, S3 has a resolution of 720x1280p. The update may increase this number to a full HD 1080p.

Another improvement that Galaxy S3 users may soon enjoy is a built-in wireless charging. In other words, this feature will become a regular one on the device and users will no longer need to rely on a wireless charging kit.

Samsung will also add some more options to its smart device. According to the journalist, S3 will soon rock a 2,400 mAh battery. That is 300 mAh more compared to the original edition of the company’s smartphone.

Is There Any Logic

All this sounds like a great news for consumers since they will have the chance to get a top-quality smartphone with better functions for a lower price. It’s almost like Christmas! But is there any logic in that?

One possibility for this move is that Samsung will try to further boost the sales of one of its most popular devices – the Galaxy S3. We remind you that the third generation of Galaxy S enjoyed massive sales which hit 40 million units in mid-January, 2013. That is less than 8 months after the phone’s official release. Moreover, that happened only two months after it scored 30 million sold units. In comparison, its predecessor Galaxy S2 sold 40 million units in more than 20 months. Now, when Samsung prepares to introduce its 4th-gen flagship smartphone, S3 is enjoying a sales rate of about 190,000 units per day. It is more than obvious than the device is a goldmine for Samsung. Who would want to give up that?

However, there is another theory! According to it, Galaxy S4 will be quite different compared to the S3 edition. In fact, it is believed that Samsung’s next smartphone will be so different that it will find its own and unique place on the market without challenging the Galaxy S3.

Such updates are not something new for Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer has the practice to improve some of its smartphones. However, that usually happens only on the smaller markets. But with the growing popularity of Samsung Galaxy S3, the update may be made available for bigger markets, including the US.
