Real estate and construction sector recorded highe value in DFM’s December trading

Dubai Financial Market (DFM) overall performance decreased by 7.1% to reach 1803.58 points the end of December 2009 compared to 1940.36 points at the end of November. The market capitalization decreased at the end of this month by 5.1% to reach AED 213.4 billion compared to AED 224.8 billion at the end of November.

The value of shares traded during this month reached AED 12.8 billion, compared to AED 10.2 billion recorded during November, an increase by 25.1%. Number of shares traded increased by 67.2% to reach 7.6 billion shares during this month compared to 4.6 billion shares were traded during the November. Number of transactions executed during December 2009 increased by 41.7% to reach 151.8 thousand compared to 107.1 thousand deals carried out during the last month.

In terms of sectoral contribution to trading volumes, the real estate and construction sector ranked first in terms of the value of traded shares, to reach AED 8.4 billion, or 65.5% of the total value of shares traded in the market. Investment and financial services ranked second at AED 2.2 billion, or 17.1%, followed by the transportation sector to AED 1.2 billion, or 9.2%, and the banking sector amounted to AED 667.4 million, or 5.2%. The utilities sector handled AED 149.1 million, or 1.2%, and insurance sector amounted 147.7 million, or 1.2%. Communications sector handled AED 86.3 million, or 0.7%, and the material sectors ranked last to reach AED 5 thousand.

The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this month reached AED 2.910 billion comprising 22.7 per cent of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached AED 3.382 billion which constitutes 26.4 per cent of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net institutional investment on the market reached AED 471.2 million during the period. as aggregate sell.
The value of shares bought by foreign investors during this month reached AED 5.887 billion comprising 46 per cent of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached AED 5.956 billion comprising 46.5 per cent of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net foreign investment on the market reached AED 69.7 million during the same period, as aggregate sell.
