Ola Alterå, Secretary of State for Energy, Sweden, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming World Future Energy Summit. The Swedish Secretary of State will participate in the Energy Ministers’ panel discussion session on January 18th, the first day of the Summit.

The Swedish government wants Sweden to become one of the greenest countries in Europe, and is aiming to generate 50 percent of all energy produced by 2020 from renewable energy. Part of the transformation includes the transportation sector being entirely independent of fossil fuels by 2030. The country would like to become carbon neutral by 2050.

In 2008, the country reached a record low in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Swedish emissions have now fallen by almost 12 percent since 1990.

The World Future Energy Summit Energy Ministers’ panel discussion will be attended by Ministers from both developing and developed countries, who will discuss the need to secure energy, sustain an economic development and meet the environmental realities that the world is facing.
