Palm Jumeirah will also have a marina marked exclusively for mega yachts, one of the few such destinations in the world to have such a facility. The expected completion date is in the third quarter of 2009. The mega yacht facility will be strategically anchored on the west side of the island’s trunk, adjacent to the Trump International Hotel & Tower.
With an estimated value of Dh.425 million, the marina will have IS berths, 30 of which will be capable of accommodating yachts between 50 to 165 metres in length. The remaining 45 berths will accommodate yachts between 14 to 20 metres in length.
The plans for the new marina was announced earlier at the Monaco Yacht Show by Island Global Yachting (IGY), the marina developer and management firm.
Palm Jumeirah Mega Yacht Marina will be build through partnership with Nakheel. The facility will have security checkpoints at the connection to the Palm Jumeirah trunk, and the exclusive T-head pier will provide customers with a location to homeport their vessels.
Despite the current economic climate, demand remains extremely high for mega sized yachts. The Middle East is home to more such vechicles than any other region in the world.
