Google launched its Webmaster Academy to help website owners to learn about webmaster tools, how search engines work and enhance their businesses.
The Academy is an informational resource that provides users with the webmasters tools they need to establish a online presence. It explains how Google ranks websites, what great content should look like, and how websites owners can use Webmaster Tools to their greatest advantage.
The Academy’s home page says: “Welcome to Webmaster Academy! Our goal is to help you create great sites that perform well in Google search results.”
Google publishes some interesting information on how to get your site indexed and crawled, along the updated information on how Google defines “great” content. The search engine recently changed the SEO strategy by introducing new indexing formulas. Now, Google advises to focus on quality when creating content.
Google provides valuable guidelines on how to write articles and outlines the most common problems webmasters face.
A particular section of the Google Webmaster Academy identifies steps for webmasters to ensure they are doing the right thing. Here are few steps to follow:
- Make sure your site is indexed. Use site:yoursite.com in the search query box to see all of the pages Google has indexed.
- Google instructs you to visit its Webmaster Guidelines if your site was indexed and does not show up. You may have violated its terms
- If you are indexed, but your site is lower in the rankings than previouslyThe “HTML Improvements” page under “Optimization” in your Webmaster Tools account will tell you if you have any non-indexable content. It will also assess your metadata which is important when telling Google what your site is about.
Google also recommends following its image guidelines when publishing images on your site.
