The Emirates Identity Authority has participated in a workshop organized by the General Information Authority to discuss the use by government entities of the social networking guidelines and the adoption of the open data policy in government websites.

‏The workshop, which comes as part of the UAE eGovernment’s strategy, saw the launch of web content guidelines, which would help federal government entities develop their websites and enhance their online presence.

‏Held at The Palace in The Old Town, Dubai, the workshop was opened by H. E. Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, Director General, General Information Authority, and was attended by a number of directors, executive officers, advisors and website managers at ministries and federal authorities and councils across the UAE.

‏The workshop also saw the launch of a number of documents and guidelines, which were developed by the UAE eGovernment team. These included Web Content Guidelines, eParticipation Guidelines, Open Data Guidelines, Social Networking Guidelines and an Updated Web Standards Document.

‏The Updated Web Standards Document is based on internationally accepted practices and procedures that federal government bodies should follow for their website design to comply with the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the requirements identified by United Nations eGovernment Survey which are used by the United Nations to assess the readiness of eGovernment programs around the world.

‏The Federal eGovernment is seeking to boost the UAE competitiveness through the adoption of practices of international standards in all eGovernment fields.

‏The Social Networking Guidelines were prepared in partnership between the UAE eGovernment team and Dubai School of Government in co-operation with Gartner Inc. and United Nations eGovernment Survey team. The document provided guidelines on how to benefit from various social networking guidelines for safely and effectively communicating with customers and engaging them in the decision-making process.
