Pink Rose campaign by Worood raises Breast Cancer Awareness

Worood, the floral boutique, has built up a strong momentum with its unique Pink Rose campaign that is spreading breast cancer awareness in and around the UAE. The campaign which began just over a fortnight ago has already distributed over 2000 pink roses to both cancer patients and survivors at several events across the city. The boutique will continue to be a part of many more activities throughout the month of October and are encouraged by the good-will and support to The Pink Rose campaign.

Worood’s Pink Rose campaign is simple, yet meets the objective of spreading the message of breast cancer awareness. Short messages left by online users and gathered at the events are reproduced on elegant cards that are attached to each of the pink roses. The pink roses are given away at some large as well as smaller community programs that are working towards breast cancer awareness. Free mammograms in Abu Dhabi from 19th to 21st October 2011

In support of international Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lifeline Hospital Group in partnership with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority will provide free mammograms and training on self-examination to women at free of cost from 19th October 2011 – 21st October 2011. The service is part of an ongoing campaign for the last 4 years to promote cancer prevention by educating about breast cancer and the importance of mammograms for women over 40. Since the introduction of Lifeline Mobile Mammography Unit, we have been able to screen over 1000 patients successfully. Read more

Cancer Cover Insurance for Women by Takaful

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a top-tier Islamic financial services group, announced today that it now offers a pioneering cancer cover Takaful to all its “Dana Women’s Banking” customers. ADIB Dana’s customers can benefit from “Dana Female Care Cover” plan through a simple underwriting process without the need for medical examinations. The scheme can be renewed upon the lapse of a policy year.

“ADIB Dana Cancer Takaful Plan” is a voluntary scheme that covers medical expenses for the first ever diagnosis of breast cancer. A customer will need to have passed the first 90 days after subscribing to the Takaful scheme without any cancer to be eligible for the cover. The subscriber will be entitled to cash compensation in case they are afflicted with breast cancer. Read more

HCT Women’s campuses & Pink Polo launch Breast Cancer Awareness tour

The Higher Colleges of Technology partnered today with Pink Polo to launch a Breast Cancer Awareness UAE tour which will visit four women’s HCT campuses in the lead up to a Pink Polo family fun day on Saturday, October 29.

The HCT’s Abu Dhabi Women’s College was the setting for the inaugural campus tour visit, which proved a huge hit with the students, especially given the opportunity to be photographed with a pink Fiat 500.

Pink Polo has teamed up with the Abu Dhabi Women’s College for the second consecutive year to promote Breast Cancer Awareness in a non-invasive and interactive medium. This year’s launch was highlighted by the announcement of a student-oriented art competition entitled “Pink Polo: Paint Pink.” Female university students from across the UAE are invited to enter pieces painted with the theme of breast cancer awareness and polo, with winning artworks to receive prizes and to be displayed at the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club at the Pink Polo family day on October 29.   Pink Polo, the UAE’s ground-breaking Breast cancer awareness initiative, will return for it’s second renewal on Saturday 29th October at the UAE’s Royal Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and is the second-biggest killer of women in the country. If the disease is discovered and treated at an early stage, 98 per cent of sufferers will survive, yet only 30 per cent of breast cancer cases in the Emirates are diagnosed early. Read more

Charity motorcycle rally sees public hit the streets in support of breast cancer awareness month

Bikers across the UAE got strapped in for a one-of-a-kind charity motorcycle rally this past weekend, aimed at raising funds and local awareness about the work being done to combat breast cancer across the country. aswaaq—the UAE’s leading local retail chain—served as the finishing post for the event in its community centre in Umm Suqeim, which was followed by a public gala event and garage sale of which profits were donated to the cause.

Clad in t-shirts bearing the world famous pink ribbon logo, the squad of bikers started from Dubai Hospital on Saturday afternoon and drove on Jumeirah road before reaching the finish post at aswaaq, marked by pink arches and a with a number of festivities organized for individuals as well as families. Daman goes pink for a day to mark the International month for breast cancer awareness

In its continuous effort to raise awareness on health issues among the residents of the UAE, the National Health Insurance Company- Daman marked the international month for breast cancer awareness through a series of activities throughout its UAE branches on the 21st of October.

Support for this great cause was demonstrated by all of Daman’s employees who took part by dressing in pink colored attire and pink ribbons on the day. Staff across Daman’s UAE branches provided customers with pink ribbon badges, and gave out leaflets which provided them with essential information on breast cancer. Read more

Sharjah Art Museum organises breast cancer awareness lecture

Breast cancer awareness lecture Building on ‘Because We Care,’ the initiative of Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), Sharjah Art Museum (SAM) organised an awareness lecture on breast cancer to raise awareness and educate the public about social concerns and take adequate measures. The initiative is part of SAM’s social responsibility and annual calendar of activities.

Eman Mahmoud, health education specialist, led the lecture, which focused on the early detection of beast cancer, how to self examine, and ways to manage the disease condition.

Alongside the lecture, Sharjah Art Museum organised a blood donation campaign in co-operation with the Department of Blood Transfusion and Research Services at the UAE Ministry of Health. The campaign is part of SMD’s continuous efforts to highlight the principles of brotherhood among individuals and support patients in need. Read more
