‘Young Artist Award’ competition introduces ‘Architecture’ category

The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s announceed new updates to the ‘Young Artist Award’ competition in celebration of the 10th edition. This includes the introduction of a new Architecture category, in addition to the competition’s four main categories, to support The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal’s continuous work to encourage and recognise emerging artists in the UAE, recognising that Architecture requires as much creativity as the other categories.

Her Highness Sheikha Manal said she is confident that The Cultural Office will receive many innovative and creative submissions, within both the new Architecture and four existing categories. This is especially true because the UAE is home to various creative minds and boasts some of the most impressive and unique architectural designs in the world. Her Highness Sheikha Manal highlighted that the award is a key platform for celebrating creativity in the UAE, and acts as a catalyst for innovation. Her Highness also wished all participants and young artists the best of luck and success.

The new Architecture category comes as an addition to the competition’s four main categories: Fine Art, Photography, Multimedia and Design. The Cultural Office, under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has enhanced the structure of the Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award in order to increase competitiveness and expand the talent pool of the competition.

Entry submissions to the Architecture category should include a 250 word project description and a digital rendering which includes perspective views, a ground floor plan and elevation. Shortlisted entrants will then be asked to submit an architectural model measuring 30cm x 42cm. Also, this year, group submissions can be entered into the competition, in addition to an artist solo project being entered into the same category. From the group submission entries, one winner will be selected across all the categories and the group submission winner will receive an award prize of AED 40,000.

This year’s competition will also feature a ‘People’s Choice’ as well as ‘Social Media’ recognition award. The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award is open to all UAE residents and citizens, young artists and students between the ages of 18-30 years old. All entries must be submitted online at www.youngartistaward.ae no later than 31 October 2016. The award prizes include AED 50,000 for first place, AED 30,000 for second place and AED 20,000 for third place.
