The weekend is approaching and with it come fantastic events and new things to try this weekend in Dubai. Many people will want to just rest and spend more time with the family, but what better way to take a rest than having fun? The city’s calendar is again filled with entertainment, shows, and lots of events for you and the entire family. And for those who are prepping for the upcoming Christmas, Dubai has prepared even more surprises. So, let us show some of the greatest events that are taking place this weekend.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, you are about to see a story of murder, greed, corruption and violence, explotation and treachery, all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts.” You, guessed that right – we are starting with what’s considered the most successful and certainly the most popular musical of all time, the legendary Broadway production Chicago. The winner of six Tony Awards and a Grammy Award, Chicago Broadway musical is coming live in Dubai for the first time and it will be presented from December 19th to January 3rd at Sheikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre. Incredible music, astonishing dancing and universal tale of fame, fortune, crime and passion, and all this is taking place in the midst of the decadence of the 1920s. Don’t miss the show! The tickets and VIP packages are starting from AED 245, but they will quickly sell out!

Another amazing live performance show will be entertaining the audiences this weekend – the classic children’s story about Snow White will be presented for 12 days, starting this Friday at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a fun combination between a hilarious pantomime and a family musical and is the perfect entertainment for both kids and grown-ups this holiday. Shows will be starting at 11.00 am., 3.00 pm., and 7.00 pm., and tickets are AED 130. The other fairytale you can watch is The Beauty and the Beast, everyday from Friday till Monday, December 30th at the Madinat Theatre. It’s based on the classic story, but don’t expect to see live performance of the original production by The Walt Disney Company – it’s completely different from the motion picture! It’s a specially created holiday version full of songs and dancing, and lots of entertainment for the whole family. Tickets will be AED 150 and AED 170.

You can also have the children meet Santa at the special Santa’s Secret Grotto on the first floor at Wafi Mall. Along with Santa, cute elves will be entertaining the kids while they are waiting for their turn and you will certainly appreciate the glittering decorations and the incredible, giant 40-foot Christmas tree in the main atrium. Santa will be there every day through December 24th, from 10.00 am till 11 pm. and tickets are AED 60 per child.

Some of the best attractions this Christmas will be the Scuba Clause Dive with the Sharks at the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, ground and level 2 of The Dubai Mall. There will be numerous shows throughout the day, so you can visit the Aquarium whenever you want.

If you need something more casual and ordinary, check Dubai movie theatres. This week’s hit premiere is of course The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which can be seen at most city cinemas. Although it is officially rated PG 13 and indeed contains some frightening images, it is based on the fantasy novel and mostly children’s book The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, so it’s the perfect entertainment if you are taking the family. What to expect? Well, of course, a lot of magic, adventures, and your favourite characters – Bilbo Beggins, Gandalf, Thorin and the other dwarfs!
