World’s Most Expensive Cities for Travelers in 2013 Revealed

If you want to save money on your next trip, or you simply want to enjoy the world’s ultimate luxury experience, then you should research more about the most expensive travel destinations. A new research revealed the most expensive cities for travelers in 2013 along with the most expensive countries.

The report is called the Hotel Price Index and it was published by Hotels.com. The study focuses on the first half of 2013. The lists are based on the average hotel room rates in popular travel spots located all over the world.

Expectedly, the leading positions in the list of most expensive countries are taken by popular honeymoon destinations.

The Maldives was the priciest country for travelers during the first half of the year. The average hotel room rate there was $593. That was actually 7% more compared to 2012. Second on this list is French Polynesia where a night in hotel will cost you $458 on the average. This is 13% rise compared to last year. The rise is the same in Anguilla, which ranks at the fourth spot. However, more impressive is the price increase in Seychelles hotels. Prices there jumped with nearly 25% in the past twelve months. That pushed the country up the list. The only entry which registered a fall in the average hotel rates is Turks and Calcos (-2%).

Interestingly, only three of the world’s most expensive cities for H1 2013 are located in these countries. These are French Polynesia’s Bora Bora, Seychelles’ Mahe and Anguilla’s West End. Bora Bora takes the first spot with an average hotel rate of nearly $800. Hotel prices in West Hand, on the other hand, will cost you little over $500. Despite that, the rise over the last one year is 23% which has took the city to the fourth position on the list. Mahe is sixth on the ranking with average hotel rates of $448.

The other cities on the list are mainly in the U.S. or in the region. The most expensive of them is Newport Coast in California ($501). There are only two cities which are nether located in the U.S. nor in the world’s priciest countries. Tremezzo in Italy is second on the list with a year-on-year growth of 2% and hotel rates of $503. The other exception is St. Lucia’s Soufriere which scored a drop of 6%. As a result, average hotel rates there are about $448.

The research states that there is one common thing between all of these locations (apart from their high hotel prices). This is the fact that they all offer tourists a relaxing atmosphere, as well as beautiful and preserved nature.
