The London Fashion Week started last Friday, on 13 September. The event will showcase various designs and set the trends for seasons Spring/Summer 2014. Since these two seasons traditionally bring lots of colours in fashion, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that many of the outfits during the first days of the show were quite colourful. However, this time around, designers have also added some traditionalism, minimalism, as well as some sporty and urban style.

One of the collections that opened the event was that of Turkish designer Bora Aksu. His vision for Spring/Summer 2014 managed to stand out on the runways in rainy London. Aksu presented a collection which mixed bright and fresh colours like yellow, orange, baby blue and red. The designer shared that his main inspiration were the traditions and the diverse culture of Turkey. The result is embellished and feminine silhouettes. Aksu impressed with delicate crochet, quilted cotton, as well as silk tulle. The Turkish designer combined all of that with bun hairstyles, high heels and sleeveless vest or bolero jackets. The collected was diversified by a glamorous floor-length fuchsia dress and a golden skirt.

Colour was also seen in the collection of Fyodor Golan. However, the two designers behind it, went for a more urban and sporty style. Fyodor Golan’s collection was titled “Electric Children” and it showcased pieces like sports jackets, paired trousers, skirts and shorts. However, that does not mean that it was not elegant. The designs included a lot of feathers and see-through fabrics. Therefore, the final silhouette was not simply athletic, but also quite feminine. In addition, Fyodor Golan’s Spring/Summer collection had a fun side, which reminded of the 1980s fashion. Combined with more modern elements, the final result is guaranteed to appeal to today’s fashion youth.

More than interesting and unusual was the collection of J. JS Lee. The South Korean designer surprised the London public with minimalistic spring outfits. The silhouettes were very sharp and the monochrome. However, some of the outfits included colours like turquoise and pink. Therefore, the monochrome mood did not entirely dominate Lee’s collection.

Beauty Trends

Even though the London Fashion Week is just starting, a number of beauty trends were already spotted. If you want to impress with your looks during the spring and the summer of 2014, you should go with bright lipstick. The most preferable colours here will be bright red and bright pink. The lipstick will be contrasted with metallic eye shadows. This trend was seen a lot on the runways during the New York Fashion Week. Now it seems that it has made its way across the ocean and it has reached London too.

When it comes to hairstyles, apart from buns, next year we will witness the comeback of the ponytail. Also, the pixie cut will be a hit. For that, you can thank celebrities like Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway, who all gave a chance to the pixie look.

But the most important thing you should remember about Spring/Summer 2014 is that chic will combine with grunge. Outfits will be very elegant and feminine. The makeup, on the other hand, will be smoky and dark.
