Dubai World Central (DWC), the region’s first aerotropolis, announced today that over 200 leaders from the Middle Eastern logistics sector had gathered at its headquarters for the inaugural Dubai Logistics Symposium. Some of the biggest names in the global logistics industry, including Kuhne and Nagel, RSA, Panalpina and FedEx came together at the one-day event to discuss the logistics sector’s major contribution to the sustained economic and social development of Dubai.

New research revealing the logistic sector’s positive perception of Dubai was also launched at the symposium. In a survey of delegates, 81% said they were likely or very likely to expand their logistics operations and invest in Dubai in the next 12 months. This positive outlook is unsurprising given that 83% of respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the logistics environment in Dubai. Verbatim comments from the survey commended the government’s support of the logistics sector, as well as the quality of the infrastructure and regulatory framework in Dubai.

Rashed Buqaraa, Chief Operations Officer Dubai World Central, said: “The Dubai Logistics Symposium is another important step in the emirate’s ongoing strategy to be a global leader in logistics services. Our survey emphatically shows that we are on the right path with an overwhelming majority of delegates satisfied with the logistics environment in Dubai.”

Delegates heard presentations from DWC, Dubai Customs, DP World and a host of global logistics companies. The symposium ended with delegates given an exclusive tour of DWC, home to Al Maktoum International Airport, to see firsthand a cornerstone of the Dubai Government’s overall 2015 strategy to make the emirate a regional hub for logistics. Over 80 leading international companies have already committed to establish a base in DWC, with growing interest from a number of multinational companies.

Commenting on the symposium, Rashed Buqaraa, added: “The Dubai Logistics Symposium is a key part of a collective effort to support Dubai in crystallizing its position as the leading logistics hub in the world. Global supply chains are changing to serve a new generation of very demanding customers who expect their orders to be fulfilled correctly, anywhere and every time. The necessity is clear, as is the vision to respond to it. This vision is embodied in the Dubai World Central Aerotropolis, which is rapidly being established as the region’s unchallenged logistics hub.”

The Dubai Logistics Symposium is scheduled to be an annual event, taking place at the headquarters of Dubai World Central with main focus of bringing together logistics expertise and local business to create a platform for networking and knowledge share.
