Macy’s (www.macys.com) will open its first store outside the United States not just anywhere but in the UAE. The popular retailer has picked Abu Dhabi as the location for its very first international store.
The retail store of Macy’s in UAE’s capital will not simply be the first in the country and the Middle East region, but also outside the U.S. Although the company has over 800 stores in the U.S., this will be its first one outside the North American country. The retailer’s flagship store is situated in Midtown Manhattan, New York.
Macy’s store in Abu Dhabi will occupy an area of 205,000 sq. ft. and it will be located at Al Maryah Central, on Al Maryah Island. In addition, it will cover four different levels.
Along with Macy’s first store outside the U.S., Abu Dhabi will also welcome a Bloomingdale’s store (www.bloomingdales.com). Even though it will not be the first one in the UAE, it will be the biggest Bloomingdale’s retail store in the region. The brand currently has a shop set in The Dubai Mall, which opened back in2010. However, the store in Abu Dhabi will occupy an area of 230,000 sq. ft. This means that it will be even bigger than Macy’s first international store. Apparently large retailing companies estimate a great potential for their ventures in the region.
Similar to Macy’s store, Bloomingdale’s first Abu Dhabi department store will cover four levels and will be located at Al Maryah Central. Both stores will offer accessories, apparel, as well as branded home and beauty products.
Now the big question: When will the two stores open? If you were hoping that this would happen before this holiday shopping season, you may be disappointed. Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s will launched their new stores in the United Arab Emirates sometime in 2018. It is expected that this will happen by the spring of 2018, when the time for World Expo 2020 is near. Those, who do not want to wait for so long, will be more than happy to learn that both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s online stores already ship to the United Arab Emirates.
