Every year cities around the world try to display the biggest, the most attractive or the weirdest Christmas trees in the world. Traditional or not, some Christmas trees immediately grab the attention and make the headlines during the holiday season. Here we are presenting you the most amazing trees this year.
Vilnius Christmas Tree – This is definitely the tallest Christmas tree in the Baltics, and among the tallest trees in Europe. It stands in the middle of the Cathedral Square in the Lithuanian capital and it stuns with its huge size (25 meters tall) and beautiful bright decoration. In fact, it’s not a tree exactly – it’s made of a 25-meter metal frame covered in fir tree branches. The Christmas tree is the most photographed object in the city.
Lego Christmas Tree – This is the tallest Christmas tree in Asia and it is displayed in Legoland Malaysia. Apparently, its height is not its most striking feature, but the fact that it is made from 400,000 Lego blocks! But in Malaysia, where you can’t see real Christmas trees, this one is a primary attraction.
Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree – New York is famous for its Christmas tree and this year, it is a 23-meter Norwegian spruce, which weighs 12 tons! It was donated by the Vargoshe family who planted it around 20 years ago and stars like Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, and the Goo Goo Dolls performed live at its lighting. The tree is decorated with 45,000 LEDS and a 3-meter-wide Swarovski crystal star at the top.
Galeries Lafayette Christmas Tree – Paris’ 20-meter tall tree is the world’s highest in-store tree and definitely one of the most beautifully decorated! It has incredibly detailed, horology-themed decoration, including a toy village at its base, which comes to life every hour. It was co-designed with Swiss watchmaker Swatch for its 30th birthday.
Floating Christmas Tree – This is Rio de Janeiro’s amazing floating Christmas tree and it’s impressive not only because it floats, but for its size, too. It is 85 meters tall, weighs 542 tons, and is illuminated by 3.3 million lights, for which it took the Guinness World Record for The World’s Largest Floating Christmas Tree. Of course, it is artificial!
Macaroon Christmas Tree – The Ritz-Carlton Hotelin Charlotte, North Carolina is maybe our favourite. Using 10,008 egg whites, 110 cups of sugar and 57 cups of almonds, the team of pastry cooks in the hotel created an 8,000-macaroon Christmas tree. It’s in three colours – white, green and red and is perfectly edible.
