Dubai Music Week to give UAE’s music industry a great push

For one week Dubai will become the music industry center of the world. The city will host the very first edition of Dubai Music Week. The event has lined up both regional and international performers and music professionals.

Dubai Music Week 2013 will kick off this Tuesday (September 24) and it will feature some of the hottest names in the music industry today. However, the event will not simply include performances and concerts. It will also treat visitors and music fans with special seminars. Professionals from the industry will discuss the latest trends in the industry. The leading speaker at the seminars will be 27-time Grammy winner Quincy Jones. Also, Dubai Music Week will start with a seminar of Michael Jackson’s dream team. Those are some of the professionals who are behind Jackson’s biggest hits, including Thriller, Rock With You and Man in the Mirror.

Among the performers will be world-known artists. On September 26, Black Eyed Peas’ very own will.i.am will perform for the event’s attendees. He will be joined by famous producer and music guru Timbaland. Both of them will also participate at the seminars. On the following day, September 27, young music star Selena Gomez will, too, take the Dubai Music Week’s stage.

Apart from international artists, the event will also honor Bollywood and regional music. September 28 will focus namely on the Bollywood music genre. Headliner of the event will be Mohammad Riffi who won X Factor Arabia 2013. Together with Adham Naboulsi, Ebrahim Abd Elatheem and Young Pharoz, Riffi will close the show on September 29.

According to one of the organizers of the event, this mixture of music talents will reflect the diverse population of Dubai. In addition, the people behind Dubai Music Week state this will not be seen as simply a concert, but rather as an initiative that will take place over a long period of time.

Dubai Music Week’s main goal, however, is to find the next international superstar from the Middle East region. That is why the event will also feature a music competition. A total of five artists will take part in it. Four of them are based in the United Arab Emirates. Those are rock singer Jay Wud, soul musician Hamdan Al Abri, R&B producer Nile, as well as pop singer Dee Dee Fox. The only performer who is not from the UAE is Xriss Jor. Jor is originally from Lebanon.

All of these musicians were nominated by executes from Universal Music, Sony and A&R. As a prize, Quincy Jones will produce a single of the winner of the competition. In addition, Jones will help the best performer to create a music video which will be distributed globally.

The first edition of Dubai Music Week will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre. It is organized by DxB Live and Global Gumbo Group (G3). Also, it is planned that the event will continue to be help up to 2017. In addition, Dubai Music Week is expected to give UAE’s music industry a great push.
