Dubai’s RTA (Roads & Transport Authority) shared that the Rashid Hospital Tunnels project is finally completed. RTA informed that after a few “finishing touches” the facility will be ready to open on June 30th (Sunday).

The Rashid Hospital Project consists of a number of streets, as well as two tunnels. Both of them are two-laned and they will cover the traffic from Tariq bin Ziyad & Umm Harir Streets in the direction of the intersection of Floating Bridge’s extension and Al Riyad Street.

The first of the two tunnels will start from Tariq bin Ziyad Street and pass under Al Maktoum Bridge. The second one will start from Umm Harir Street and then pass across Oud Metha Park. After that, the tunnels will merge into one street with four lanes. It will lead to Al Riyadh Street through Rashid Hospital.

In addition, RTA has added three more lanes to al Maktoum Bridge which will now amount to eleven. That was done in an attempt to increase the capacity of vehicle flow of the street, as well as to decrease the traffic coming from Shekh Zayed Road towards Deira.

The Rashid Hospital Tunnels Project amounts to AED722 million or $196 million. According to RTA, it will have a total capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the traffic levels in the area near Sheikh Rashid Hospital. In addition, it will also improve the flow of vehicles in the surroundings.

The construction of Rashid Hospital Tunnels project started over three years ago. The long works on it cause local residents a lot of difficulties. That was due to the fact that RTA has to divert several roads. Therefore, people living in the area will definitely be really happy about the completion of the project.

Currently, the Road & Transport Authority in Dubai is working to improve a number of key roads in the city. Apart from enhancing the current conditions of the roads, RTA is also aiming at creating an infrastructure that will successfully correspond with Dubai’s rapid urbanization.
