Dubai: Inflation up 0.74% in Q1, 2011

Inflation rate in the Emirate of Dubai rose to record 0.74 % in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period of 2010, according Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC).

“This is due to the increase in the prices of Transport group by 9.72%, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group by 5.64%, Education group by 3.41%, Health group by 3.40%, Restaurants and Hotels group by 3.13%, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco group by 2.21%, Miscellaneous Goods and Services group by 1.33% Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance group by 1.27%, Recreation and Culture group by 0.05%, Clothing and Footwear group by 0.03%, Communication group by 0.02%, while prices of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels group decreased by 3.31%,” the report noted.

Inflation rate in major expenditure groups: Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages : Inflation rate of Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Group increased by 5.64 %, As a result of, increase in the prices of Fruits by 13.01%. Followed by, the prices of Food products n.e.c. by 10.63% and Vegetables by 8.99%.

Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco : Inflation rate of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco group increased by 2.21%, due to increase in Tobacco prices with 3.02%. .

Clothing and Footwear : Inflation rate of Clothing and Footwear group increased by 0.03%. As a result of, increase in the prices of Clothing Materials by 0.12%.

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels : Inflation rate of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuel group declined to 3.31%. As a result of, the decrease in Rents amount by 5.07, and the prices of Materials ‘&’ Services for the Maintenance and Repair of the Dwelling by 0.85%.

Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance : Inflation rate of Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance group amounted to 1.27%.

Due to high increase in Glassware, Tableware and Household Utensils prices by 6.47%. Followed by, an increase in the prices of Carpets and other Floor Coverings by 4.43% and 3.75% for Non-Durable Household Goods.

Health : Inflation rate of Health group reached 3.40%, due to the raise in Medical services prices with 55.36%. Further, prices of Hospital Services increase by 19.28% and Other medical products by 3.13%.

Transport : Inflation rate of Transport group reached 9.72%, with the highest increase in the prices of Fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment by 22.92%. In addition to that, prices of Passenger transport by air increased by 10.84% and Passenger Transport by road by 5.24%.

Communication : Inflation rate of Communication group amounted to 0.02%. As a result of, the increase in Wireless and Wired Equipment prices by 2.63%. While Wireless and Wired Services prices decreased by 0.03%.

Recreation and Culture : Inflation rate of Recreation and Culture group amounted to 0.05%. Due to, the increase in the prices of Toys by 6.03%, Stationery and Drawing Materials by 2.97%, and Books by 1.77%.

Education : Inflation rate of Education group has increased by 3.41%, due to Tuition Fees.

Restaurants and Hotels : Inflation rate of Restaurants and Hotels group reached 3.13%, because of high increase in the prices of Hotels Accommodation Services by 5.80% and Restaurants, Caf s by 3.12%.

Miscellaneous Goods and Services : Inflation rate of Miscellaneous Goods and Services group reached 1.33%. As a result of Jewellery, Clocks and Watches prices increase by 13.79%, Other Personal Effects by 6.15%, and Personal care Services by 4.19
