American Universities better than British

This year for first time since 2004, Harvard University lost the top spot in a global ranking of higher education institutions to California Institute of Technology.

In the annual table compiled by the London-based Times Higher Education, based on data supplied by Thomson Reuters Corporation, Stanford University shared the second place with Harvard. The University of Oxford rose to fourth from sixth in 2010, outnumbering the University of Cambridge at sixth. Princeton University is ranked fifth. Read more

Cambridge ranked World’s Number One University, Survey

Cambridge was ranked World’s Number One University, following the largest ever survey of academics and employers that revealed QS World University Rankings. The 8th annual QS World University Rankings® reveals top 300 universities based on six indicators including surveys of over 33,000 global academics and 16,000 graduate employers, the largest of their kind ever conducted. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Trustees and H.E. the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder , attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and the Berlin Institute of Technology (TU-Berlin) at his Al Bateen Palace today (December 14, 2008).

Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, ADU Chancellor, signed the MOU on behalf of Abu Dhabi University and Prof. Dr. Frank Straube, Director of the Logistics Chair and Managing Director of the School of Technology and Management, signed on behalf of TU-Berlin. Read more

German Orchestra at Abu Dhabi University

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted a jazz concert by the German Youth Orchestra at the university’s auditorium on its Abu Dhabi campus. The concert was attended by H.E. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, ADU’s Chairman of the Executive Board, Mr. Klaus-Peter Brandes, the German Ambassador in the UAE, Dr. Nabil A. Ibrahim, the ADU Chancellor, Dr. James Pounder, the Acting Provost at ADU, as well as various college deans.

Bin Harmal pointed out that the event was a significant indicator of ADU’s insistence on becoming one of the prominent scientific and creative institutes in the country and region. Read more
