Mother’s Day is annually celebrated around the world in every place. Different countries adopt the most significant date for their nation or religion, that is why this event has so many dates for celebration. Traditionally most countries of the Arab world celebrate Mother’s Day on March 21.

March 21st – Equinox Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates
March 8 – The former Soviet countries
March 6th – Ireland, United Kingdom
May 8th – Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, United States
May 29th – Morocco, Sweden, France

Mother’s Day is genuinely American holiday, that became popular in every country of the world. Sometimes the adoption of the holiday is connected to some significant stories, that happened in a country. For example, Mother’s Day first appeared in Egypt in 1943, when it was introduced by journalist Mustafa Amin. Unfortunately, his idea was overlooked at that time. But Amin didn’t leave his attempts to establish the holiday and connected it with the story of a widowed mother, who devoted her life to raise her son until he became a doctor. The son then married and showed no gratitude to his mother. This story motivated Amin to promote the holiday, till the idea was accepted by president Gamal Abdel Nasser. The first official celebration of Mother’s Day in Egypt took place on March 21, 1956.

Other Arab countries adopted this holiday, following the Egyptian practice.
