The first Global Logistics Forum commenced successfully in the presence of His Excellency Gerhard Schröder, Former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, wherein he stressed that GCC countries, specifically the UAE, have set the right courses for Global Logistics Services by investing heavily into logistics and transport infrastructure in the last years.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Rulers Representative in the Western Region, more than 200 regional and global logistics professionals gathered in the forum to discuss ways of bridging the gap between the global supply chain industry and the regional logistics sector.

In an initiative unprecedented across the Middle East and North Africa, Public Transport Agency at the Dubai Roads ‘&’ Transport Authority (RTA), announced that the work team of Planning ‘&’ Business Development Department of the Agency teamed up with the GIS Section at IT Department of the RTA and Google Inc. to upload Dubai public bus stops information on the digital space of Google Earth. The move will enable public bus users in Dubai visiting Google Earth portal to check this information at any time and from any place.

More logistics infrastructure are expected to be created in the GCC that would pave the way for competitive logistics services, as regional governments, municipalities and private investors have placed logistics development on their agenda, said a logistics expert in the region.

According to Dr. Roland Zibell, Director of ADI Services FZE, although Dubai remains to be the only outstanding hub for trading and logistics in the GCC, more locations have the potential to develop into platforms with good logistics infrastructure and service offerings.

Dubai Metro payment dispute with Japanese contractors settled

Disputed payments estimated at about $2 to 3 billion

Construction of the Dubai Metro has restarted after a settlement was reached with the Japanese-led consortium behind the project over about $2-3 billion in disputed payments, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Construction of 18 unfinished stations on the system’s main line and another 18 on an unopened line started again on Feb. 7, the paper said on its website citing contractors.
