The winners of the Top CEO Awards 2017 have been announced, following the successful conclusion of the Top CEO Conference on April 11. The awards ceremony was hosted at the Bay La Sun Hotel & Marina, King Abdullah Economic City, where the event made its Saudi Arabian debut. It is is organised by TRENDS magazine in collaboration with expert auditors and leading business organisations.

The Top CEO Awards celebrate the region’s TOP 100 CEOs based on an evaluation of their companies’ listings on GCC stock exchanges across different categories – a meticulous and transparent process that sets the flagship event apart as an industry-leading platform.

To add another layer of transparency and accountability to the selection, TRENDS works with INSEAD business school and corporate governance institute Hawkamah to ensure that elements of good governance remain an integral part of the overall ranking system, while global auditors including Deloitte – one of the world’s largest professional services networks – also assist in the evaluation of the financial statements.

Julien Hawari, Co-CEO at Mediaquest – the media company behind the event and the publisher of TRENDS magazine – commented: “We are pleased to recognise and reward the region’s top 100 CEOs, who are driving GCC business onto greater heights with their dedication, skill and expertise, while also serving as exceptional role models for companies the world over. Our transparent and stringent selection process has made the Top CEO Awards the definitive platform for recognising exceptional business leadership across the region and a benchmark for business heads and their companies.”

The Top CEO Awards are distinctive and unique because only those companies that are listed on the stock exchanges of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman are evaluated. In a comprehensive ranking process, all of the companies listed on these stock exchanges are evaluated on the basis of performance, growth, goodwill, reputation and good governance. Other parameters include revenues, market capitalisation and the company’s evolution over the past 24 months, as well as its size, earnings per share and profits.

Julien Hawari, Co-CEO at Mediaquest, pointed out: “The fact that the rankings are finalised on the basis of hard statistics and numbers makes this one of the most respected awards programmes in the world. Winning a Top CEO award is not only the greatest recognition of leadership excellence – it also leads to tangible new opportunities for companies in the region and we are proud to see the event directly driving and stimulating business growth.”

The final top 100 CEOs are recognised for their ability to drive a positive change in the fast-changing dynamics of business and for their proven ability to steer their companies towards profits after beating all odds of the negative market sentiments.

This event was held under the sponsorship of American Express as the Strategic Sponsor, King Adbullah Economic City as the Strategic Partner, Maserati as the Official Car Sponsor, Panerai as the Timekeeper Sponsor, DHL as the Silver Sponsor, Capital Club and Deloitte as Bronze Sponsors and Arab News as the Official English Media Partner.
