This means retailers are offering discounts and promotions, which makes it one of the best months of the year for shopping. However, not all deals will be that great. In fact, for certain products, May will be worst time for purchases.

Some are already buying summer clothes and swimwear, but unfortunately, their prices now will be higher than ever. To help you avoid paying too much, we’ve gathered the best and worst deals in May.

What to buy

Spring apparel:  There are plenty of sales on spring clothing and shoes already, as retailers are now prepping for the summer season and trying to free up room for summer and beach products. You can easily find discounts of up to 80 percent on spring clothing, especially at online stores such as Amazon, 6pm, MyHabit, Macy’s, and so on.

Kitchen appliances: Kitchen appliances, tools, party supplies and various accessories are common gifts for moms, so there are already Mother’s Day sales. Discounts will vary in different stores, but you can expect savings of at least 30percent. In addition, new refrigerator models are coming out over the summer, so this month you can find lower prices for last-year models.

Summer vacations: Usually, this isn’t the best time to book a beach vacation, but there are huge discounts on hotel reservations and packages in the not-so-hot right now destinations. For example, you can book a stay at the Caribbean and save up to 65 percent.

What not to buy

Outdoor equipment: This is probably the hottest season for grills, lawn mowers, and patio furniture, so prices are quite inflated. Everyone prepares for outdoors, so everything camp and picnic-related is also at peak prices. For such products, you should wait until at least September.

Jewelry: Although there will be discounts for Mother’s Day, jewelry is quite expensive as a whole right now. The end of the month will be more appropriate. Or you can shop for more affordable pieces – for example crystal jewelry and zirconia instead of diamonds.

Summer and beach clothing and products: This is the peak season for summer clothing, swimwear, and beach accessories, which means they are just too expensive. If you, however, really need to replace the old swimsuit, search online for websites that sell everything at warehouse prices – you may not find the latest trends, but items will be much, much cheaper.

These are the most common shopping categories which will be in demand in the coming month. If you wonder about electronics, the answer is No! – you won’t find discounts, at least not for major smart phone, PC, or gaming brands. Some Chinese companies, on the other hand, are releasing new phone models, but don’t expect much!
