Travel across the UAE is about to become simpler and more connected than ever before.
Etihad Rail, United Trans, and Via have announced a new partnership that brings Etihad Rail services into Citymapper, the leading journey-planning app powered by Via and introduced by United Trans. The collaboration marks a major step in connecting all modes of transport across the UAE — from trains and metros to buses, on-demand shuttles, and micromobility — through one easy-to-use digital platform.
The integration is designed to create a seamless, connected travel experience for passengers while advancing the UAE’s long-term vision for sustainable, multimodal mobility. Citymapper will become the one-stop digital hub for anyone traveling across the country, giving users real-time information about routes, schedules, and fares while offering smart recommendations for the fastest and most convenient options.
A Smarter, More Connected UAE
Through this partnership, passengers will be able to plan their full journeys across multiple transport options — all from a single app. Citymapper will provide real-time route updates, optimized journey planning, and fare visibility, helping travelers compare different transport options and choose the most efficient way to get to their destination. This integration will also make it easier for both residents and visitors to explore the country without relying on private vehicles, supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals and reducing congestion on the roads.
According to Azza Alsuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, this initiative represents a key milestone for the UAE’s public transport network.
“This is a major step toward building a modern, connected transport system for everyone in the UAE,” said Alsuwaidi. “By working with United Trans and Via, we’re creating a travel experience where the train becomes the backbone of the country’s transport network. It’s about offering passengers flexibility, simplicity, and confidence in public transport.”
Driving Smart Mobility Forward
The partnership doesn’t stop at digital journey planning. The collaboration also explores introducing first- and last-mile transport solutions powered by Via’s on-demand technology and operated by United Trans. These on-demand shuttle services would link nearby neighborhoods, communities, and business districts to Etihad Rail stations, ensuring that travelers can easily reach train services without needing a private car.
By creating a connected ecosystem, the three companies aim to deliver a transport experience that reduces congestion, improves accessibility, and encourages people to choose sustainable travel options more often. The concept also aligns with the UAE’s broader goal of becoming a global leader in smart, integrated mobility, using innovation to connect people, cities, and opportunities.
Raed Abu Hijleh of United Trans emphasized the company’s long-standing role in advancing smart mobility across the Emirates.
“United Trans has long been committed to developing intelligent transport solutions,” said Abu Hijleh. “This partnership is an important step toward creating an integrated, user-friendly network that encourages more people to choose shared and sustainable transport.”
The Future of Public Transport in the UAE
Chris Snyder, Chief Operating Officer of Via, described the collaboration as a model for how modern transport systems should work.
“This is what the future of public transport should feel like — connected, intuitive, and rider-centric,” Snyder said. “By integrating Etihad Rail into Citymapper and combining it with our expertise in flexible, on-demand mobility networks, we’re creating a unified experience that makes every journey simpler.”
Via and United Trans already have a successful partnership in place, jointly powering on-demand public transportation services in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman. The addition of Etihad Rail into the Citymapper platform takes this collaboration to the next level — building a unified digital mobility network that covers the entire UAE.
With Citymapper’s powerful digital tools, Etihad Rail’s growing network, and United Trans’ operational expertise, this partnership is poised to redefine how people move around the country. Travelers will soon be able to plan, compare, and complete their journeys seamlessly across all modes of transport — marking a significant step toward a smarter, greener, and more efficient mobility future for the UAE.</p
