An international consortium, led by US-based CH2M HILL and UK-based Mace, will deliver the construction components for the Dubai Trade Centre Jebel Ali development. The two companies that won Dubai’s World Expo 2020 contract were involved in the construction of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

An official statement confirmed that Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has appointed the joint venture of US firm CH2M HILL and UK-based Mace to manage the delivery of all construction-related services for Expo 2020 venue. The consortium won the bid for the tender after a fierce competition that involved leading global companies. According to the contract, the winners will now provide full-service consultancy, design, real estate programme management, constructions and operations management for the development of the mega site that will host the expo.

Previously, it was revealed that the Expo 2020 venue will be a 438-hectare site, stretching from Dubai Trade Centre to Jebel Ali, which will have a dedicated, gated 150-hectare expo area, as well as a huge surrounding residential, hospitality and logistics zone. It is designed to accommodate up to 300,000 visitors, while the expected number of people on a week day is 153,000 on average. The prestigious event will run for six months, from October 2020 till April 2021 and is predicted to attract millions of visitors from the region and the world. After the end of the Expo, the site will serve as an educational, cultural and business area, promoting innovation, collaboration and sustainable development.

The two companies are among the leading firms right now, known for their previous experience together while working on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, CH2M HILL is involved in the Rio 2016 Olympics, while British company Mace is the programme manager for the Qatar Public Works projects and was consulting the organizing committee of Astana Expo 2017. The firms are also said to have worked independently on major local projects such as Jumeirah Beach Residencies, Business Bay Development, Mall of the Emirates, Media City, Silicon Oasis, and others.
