Anyone who listens to modern music is aware of the fact that a big part of it is filled with slang and heavy explicit content. Probably you have been in a situation in which your parents, grandparents or your elderly neighbors are taken aback by the dirty lyrics in your favourite track. Well, this may soon remain only a memory of the past thanks to Google. The company’s service called Google Music is now changing explicit lyrics with cleaner and more acceptable ones.

That is possible because of the service’s special Scan and Match function. However, Google Music users do not seem to be happy about this new update. But that is not because people prefer the dirty versions of the songs. According to Droid Life, a number of users have reported that Google Music is replacing even lyrics that are clean.

However, this is not the first time in which a music service has such an issue with its matching function. Apple also had a similar problem with its iTunes Match. The matching option issue may be caused by two main reasons. One of them is that there is some important information that is missing from the music file like some data about the album from which the song was taken. Another cause of the problem may also be incorrect metadata in the file.

In addition, Google Music has a hard time determining curse words which appear only once or twice in the song. In other words, often the service misses some “bad” lyrics and it can only censor tracks which are filled with them.

It is clear that Google Play will need some fixing. However, we should not forget that Google introduced its service only a few days ago.

For those of you who don’t know, Google Music allows users to share songs across various devices. Google hopes that with this music service it will challenge Apple’s iTunes, as well as Amazon’s Cloud Player.
