  • Arab Health Awards 2012 recognise healthcare excellence in the Middle East
  • 13 awards presented to highlight the region’s growth and achievements in the healthcare field

The highly anticipated winners of the Arab Health 2012 Achievement & Innovation Awards were announced last night at a gala ceremony at Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai attended by over 700 of the region’s leading healthcare professionals, senior Government officials and special VIP industry guests.

The awards consisted of 11 categories such as Excellence in Surgery Services and Excellence in Patient Centred Care Award, including two new entries this year, Young Surgeon of the Year Award and Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician of the Year.

The highlight awards of the evening were the inaugural awards; Young Surgeon of the Year Award which was presented to Dr. Vinod Gauba, Imperial Healthcare, Dubai, due to his academic achievement and role as a mentor and educator in the medical field and the Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician Award received by Dr. Nesrin El-Khatib, Royale Hayat Hospital, Saudi Arabia, for acumen and leadership, dedication to excellence in quality of patient care and commitment to continuing medical education.
“Every awards entry is about development of patient care and, although winning a prestigious healthcare award is an honour, ensuring that the healthcare organisations strive towards being at the pinnacle of their field will ultimately be the biggest reward,” said Simon Page, Managing Director – Life Sciences, Informa Exhibitions, organisers of Arab Health.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Managing Director, Lifeline Hospital Group, UAE who was presented with the Arab Health International Leadership Award, said: “It is an honour to be recognised for this award by the medical community and a great privilege to receive it tonight. The success of the Lifeline Hospital Group is due to the dedication of the team and partners, each of whom show exceptional commitment to the health and wellbeing of the residents of the UAE.”

In addition, the Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation Services Award (International) was presented to Mohammad Ismail for his invention of the Sudanpro Swiss Leg and commended his vital role physiotherapy plays and providing support for disabled people throughout the region.

“The nominations received for the 2012 awards clearly indicate the continuing strong development of knowledge and skills to support high quality health outcomes that organisations are striving for across the Middle East. They provide a beacon for others to follow,” said Brian Johnston, Chief Executive, The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

The judging panel was made up of internationally recognised and respected judges from a variety of industry sectors and disciplines, including Fadi El-Jardali, Health Management and Policy , American University of Beirut, Accreditation Canada; Dr. Joel J. Nobel, Founder and President Emeritus, ECRI; Brian Johnston, Chief Executive of The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards; and Ashraf Ismail, Managing Director, Middle East International Office, Joint Commission International with Awards Advisor Malek El Husseini, Business Development Director, GE Healthcare, Middle East.

The Arab Health 2012 Achievement & Innovation Awards are celebrated during the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, the largest healthcare event in the region, which runs until Thursday 26th January 2012.
