Best Travel & Tourism Companies to Work for in 2013

A new report by Glassdoor called Travel Industry Report Card outlines the ten best companies to work for in the travel and hospitality sector. The study is based on reviews from people who work in popular hotels, travel agencies and airlines. Simply said, it captures the satisfaction levels of employees in these companies, as well as the rating of their CEOs.

So if you are looking for a job in the travel industry, you should better go through the list of the best travel companies to work for. The general trend among the top achievers this year is that they are mainly hotels and resort chains. However, airline companies and online travel platforms and websites are also seen on the ranking.

  • Orbitz Worldwide – Average salaries for non-intern jobs at Orbitz start at a little under $50,000 and can go over $140,000. The online travel company received a rating of 4.0. Also, its CEO Barney Harford is enjoying an approval rating of 86%.
  • Southwest Airlines – The total annual revenue of this company exceeds $10 billion. In addition, Southwest Airlines was included in the list of 50 Best Places to Work in 2010 and in 2011. The rating of this company is 3.9, while that of CEO Gary C. Kelly – 84%.
  • JetBlue – Although JetBlue’s CEO Dave Barger has higher approval rate than that of his colleagues in the first two spots, the company has a rating of 3.8. Nevertheless, the low-cost airline was one of the most admired companies in 2008. In 2011, it ranked among the best places to work for LGBT equality.
  • Ritz-Carlton – The rating of CEO Harve Humler is the highest on the chart – 97%. Salaries on the top levels of this luxury hotel chain can hit over $100,000. Ritz-Carlton’s rating is 3.8.
  • Four Seasons Hotels – The next hotel chain on the list is the Four Seasons. The yearly revenue of the company varies between $2 and $5 billion. The Four Seasons Hotel’s CEO Kathleen Taylor has a rating of 96% and the company scored 3.7 points.
  • TripAdvisor – Just like the Four Seasons, trave website TripAdvisor has a rating of 3.7. Despite that its CEO Stephen Kaufer is rated lower at 86%.

    Marriott International – The popular hospitality company has a wide portfolio of hotels and lodging facilities all over the world. CEO Arne Sorenson is approved by 87% of the company’s employees. Marriott enjoys an average rating of 3.6. In addition, Marriott International is one of the 25 best companies to work for in Latin America.
  • Disney Parks & Resorts – President and CEO Robert Iger has 95% approval. Over the past two years, the company was seen on many lists of best employers and best places to work for. Therefore, it is no wonder that its rating amounts to 3.7.
  • Fairmont Hotels & Resorts – The last hotel chain on the ranking is also rated at 3.7. Fairmont Hotels & Resort is one of the top employers in Canada and its CEO William Fatt is approved by 91% of its employees.
  • AirTran Holdings – The airline holding company’s Gary Kelly is not among the most loved CEOs. Kelly’s rating amounts to barely 67%. However, AirTran Holding is rated with 3.6 points which is more than enough to grant it the 10th spot on the list.
