President and Managing Director of Marriott International for MEA (Middle East and Africa), Alex Kyriakidis, informed at a conference that the company has a total of 42 properties with 12,237 rooms in the MEA region. He added that this number will increase with about 50% in only five years. That was due to the fact that Marriott will open another 48 hotels over this period of time. This means that it will manage over 11,500 new rooms. It is estimated that around 12,000 people should be recruited to cover the needs of the growing company.
Kyriakidis stated that about Dh12.8 billion ($3.5 billion) will be invested in Marriott’s latest projects.
Only in the UAE, the company will build nine facilities in a couple of years. One of them will be JW Marriott Hotel Dubai’s second tower. In that way the group will add another 3,000 rooms to the country’s hospitality industry.
This year, Marriott International will open The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi which will have 532 rooms, Dubai Marriott Zabeel (352 rooms) and the 128-room Marriott Executive Apartments Zabeel. In 2014 the company will finish another four projects – the second tower of JW Marriott Marquis Hotel (804 rooms), 195-room Courtyard by Marriott Abu Dhabi Central Market, Abu Dhabi Marriott Hotel (315 rooms), as well as 64-unit Marriott Executive Apartments Abu Dhabi City Center. Two new Marriott hotels will open door in 2015 – 244-room Edition Hotel and Renaissance Dubai Motor City (354 rooms).
