This unparalleled success vindicates the decision to extend the season until 31st March, which was made by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It underlines the crucial role of Global Village as a prominent tourism, shopping and entertainment hub for Dubai.
During its 16th season, Global Village hosted 29 pavilions featuring 45 countries, with Tunisia, Spain and Kyrgyzstan making their debut. The 2600 shops were run by approximately 10,000 friendly and helpful staff members. Over 500 media representatives were welcomed from the UAE and abroad. 8000 shows were presented on 22 stages such as the World Culture Stage, Special Events Tent and Community Stage as well as the various pavilion stages. Special mention must be made of ‘Khalifat Zayed’ which was one of the most distinctive shows ever. The Fazza Yola Championships thrilled audiences; but this was by no means the only highlight, as there were five-star performances by Bollywood, Argentinan, Chinese, Ecuadorian and many other authentic cultural groups.
The Fun Fair area increased by 30%, offering more than 40 rides and games for adrenalin-seeking enthusiasts of all ages. 150 kiosks were on hand, with 40 kiosks from the HH Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders (SME) which introduced fresh and innovative business ideas.
Not to be outdone, the 25 restaurants offered some tantalizing Arab, Indian and Asian cuisine. Diners complimented the high standards of cleanliness, as did Dubai Municipality’s Food Department. Visitors also relaxed enjoyed a serene environment along the 800 meter canal and lake, interrupted only by the beautiful Dancing Fountain and Water Screen shows.
Global Village achieved great success this season, further enhancing its status as the most exciting entertainment and shopping event in the region. Looking ahead, Global Village is geared to build on this success, and envisions that the forthcoming seasons will be even more exceptional.
