This year, the industry panels at the Dubai International Film Festival will offer insights into the evolution and contemporary state of film industries of Mexico, Egypt, and India.

Shivani Pandya, Managing Director of the Dubai International Film Festival, said: “The industry panels have been designed for emerging and existing filmmakers to further develop their skills under the guidance of international film professionals. This year, filmmakers can look forward to key learning from globally established industries such as Mexico, Egypt, and India. These learning will be of valuable assistance as they develop their careers, helping them with unique industry insights.”

Celebrating Mexican filmmaking with a focus on Mexico in DIFF 2010, the industry panel “Y Tu Mexico Tambien – Focus on Mexico” will give an overview of the Mexican film industry – one of the largest cinema markets in Latin America. The panel will discuss the film industry’s relationship with other countries in the region, the role of co-production, and how Mexican talent has emerged as a powerful force within the American film industry.

An eminent panel comprising Mexican director Filipe Cazals Siena, Cristina Prado of the Mexican Film Institute, and Tonantzin Esparza of Maya Entertainment will lead the discussion on December 13 from 2:30pm to 4pm at the Film Forum Room.

Egyptian producer Wael Omar, director Mohamad Diab and Ali Abu Shadi of the Ismailia International Film Festival will lead the “Focus on Egyptian Cinema” panel on December 14 from 11:30am to 1pm. The panel will discuss an overview on Egyptian cinema, stemming from old age cinema to the contemporary Egyptian film industry.

The Gulf region, as well as the wider Arab world, is a crucial market for the Indian film industry. Yet, beyond established markets, new opportunities are opening up for Indian producers, as global co-production partnerships begin to become workable, and rewarding options.

At the Indian Industry Panel on December 16 from 2:30pm to 4pm at the Film Forum Room, Indian producer/director Karan Johar, Amit Khanna, will discuss the lessons of Arab and Indian producers in maximising their global market potential.
