Fringe Festival brings world-touring Chinese Variety Show to Wafi

The ongoing Fringe Festival at Wafi has brought a new show to shoppers at the mall in the last week of DSF. The Chinese Variety Show, running till Feb 28^th, features traditional Chinese dance performances and circus acts in a thirty-minute exhilarating display.

The show begins with a young girl’s enigmatic rendition of a classical Chinese dance. The graceful performance is accompanied by soothing Chinese melody in the background and narrates the dancer’s moments of happiness and sorrow.

This is followed by a well-choreographed juggling of hats performed by two young jugglers. Other acts involve handkerchief spinning, umbrella spinning, martial arts performances and traditional dancing that mesmerize the young and the grown-ups alike.

The crowd’s favorites are the performances of an 11-year old Chinese contortionist and an 11-year old Chinese acrobat. The agility of the young girl who can twist her body and spin handkerchiefs at the same time is certainly a breathtaking sight for the crowd. Another heart-stopping act involves a head stunt by the young acrobat.

The group of Chinese acrobat and circus performers has travelled the world with their various acts, having recently performed in Spain, US, and Russia. The Chinese Variety Show will go on till the end of DSF till February 28^th with shows at 6:30pm, 8pm and 9pm.
