‘Film icons’ celebrate official opening of Reel Cinemas at The Dubai Mall

1. All 22 Screens now open, including 4 Platinum Movie Suites and The Picturehouse
2. Iconic characters from different cinema eras highlight of official opening event
3. Opening marked the launch of the first THX-certified cinema in the UAE

Reel Cinemas came alive with ghouls and goblins, legendary movie greats and superheroes as it celebrated the official opening of Dubai’s largest megaplex on November 11, 2009.

It was a fitting tribute to the universal appeal of films as Harry Potter waved his magic wand while Captain Jack Sparrow joined Austin Powers to team up with Count Dracula, Iron Man, The Hulk and Spiderman for a brush with the graceful Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

Fact met fiction; real-life cinema icons rubbed shoulders with on-screen characters – all carefully designed to regale the audience and present them the power of cinema, in a one of its kind show.

Marking the official opening of Reel Cinemas, guests were also treated to a sneak preview of Roland Emmerich’s, 2012 in Digital – the first ever in the UAE.  The sneak preview was shown in the cinema’s largest hall, Screen 22, which features cutting-edge digital cinema and 3D digital cinema projection technologies and can seat up to 320 persons.

Reel Cinemas at The Dubai Mall is operated by Reel Entertainment LLC, a joint venture of Emaar Retail and Singapore-based premier entertainment provider Cathay Organisation Holdings Ltd. Following the opening of Reel Cinemas at The Dubai Mall, Reel Entertainment LLC will launch its second 6-screen Reel Cinemas at Dubai Marina Mall in the near future.
