Dubai has officially claimed another record. The city is now home of the world’s top lifestyle destination – The Dubai Mall. Why we are not surprised…

The Dubai Mall has welcomed 80 million visitors in 2014 alone. It surpassed New York City’s Time Square, which was visited by 39.2 million people last year. Moreover, the world’s biggest mall was more visited than the Great Wall of China, Muse du Louvre, Sydney Opera House, Niagara Falls, Eiffel Tower, British Museum and the Palace of Versailles… combined!

Almost 50 million people who visited The Dubai Mall last year, were either UAE residents or visitors from GCC countries. In comparison, in 2009, the world’s largest mall welcomed only 37 million visitors in total. What is even more interesting that even large international airports do not have such a high number of visitors per year.

Naturally, The Dubai Mall’s rising popularity led to a rise in sales. In 2014, more visitors has drove sales up by 14%. As a result, it has contributed 5% of the GDP of Dubai. In contrast, the retail sector in Dubai accounts for around 30% of the emirate’s GDP.

All of that may sound unbelievable to some people. However, The Dubai Mall is a massive sales machine with its 1,200 retail stores, more than 200 dining venues and one-of-a-kind attractions like Dubai Ice Rink, Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, Kidzania Dubai and many others.

In December, it was also announced that The Dubai Mall is one of the world’s most geo-tagged location. Dubai’s most popular attraction was listed side-by-side to locations like Disneyland, Anaheim, California and the Red Square in Moscow.

Also, the world’s busiest mall has a massive social fanbase. More than 1.86 million people are following The Dubai Mall pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter combined. In addition, it is also the most popular mall on Facebook.

In July 2014, Dubai announced plans for the construction of an even bigger mall called Mall of the World. Therefore, the city will certainly continue to be the home of the most visited lifestyle attraction in the world.
