CORONAVIRUS IMPACT

The weekend is soon to begin, but for some in Dubai, it barely ended as there was a long holiday marking the 43rd UAE National Day. Even after such a rich festive programme of shows, concerts, and events, the city isn’t taking a break – this week’s calendar in Dubai is also exciting.

If you are planning a weekend at the mall, you should watch out for luxury super cars with taxi signs on them. This is the last weekend when residents and visitors of Dubai will get to experience a unique ride in an AED 1 million car for free.

This is also the perfect time to buy jewelry – Dubai World Trade Centre is hosting Dubai International Jewelry Week 2014 from Wednesday through Saturday, December 6. The lifestyle event is the perfect venue if you are looking for a beautiful gift – everything from diamonds and precious metals, to bridal jewelry, designer collections and antiques. Although the admission is free, the expo will gather quite an exclusive audience as the exhibiting retailers aren’t just traditional gold sellers and prices can be really unbelievable.

On Thursday evening, DUCTAC at Mall of the Emirates will show Giacomo Puccini’s most famous work, “La Boheme”. The opera will be performed by internationally acclaimed musicians such as soprano Monica De Rosa McKay and tenor Gian Luca Pasolini, while a narrative in English will tell the whole story. This isn’t the traditional performance of “La Boheme” – it’s fashioned as a concert rather than an opera, which will help newcomers appreciate its beauty without being overwhelmed by its depth and complexity. Tickets start from AED 180.

Another huge music event this week is the performance of the legendary Hindustani singer Shubha Mudgal as part of the NBD Classics series. The concert takes place at DUCTAC this Friday and start at 7.00 pm.

And on Thursday night, fans of contemporary music should head to XL Beach Club in Dubai Marina for a party with American rapper Fat Joe, known for his hit “Lean Back”. The live show will start at 9.00 pm and will be free of charge. And drum and bass legend DJ Fresh takes the stage at Zero Gravity, SkyDive Dubai. Entry is free before midnight.

You can watch the third Racing at Meydan event this season on Thursday, while on Saturday, athletes and fitness and health enthusiasts can participate in Dubai Desert Road Run at The Sevens Stadium. The competition includes a 10 km race for adults above age of 14, a 3 km junior race (ages 6 -18) and a 3 km unlimed, fun run for those who aren’t so sure about their capabilities.
