The last week of October is coming to its end and the weekend in Dubai promises a lot of entertainment for singles and families. With so many live concerts, fashion events, sports competitions and even business expos, you may find it hard to plan your activities. So, we’ve picked up the biggest events everyone should consider visiting.
This week Dubai is hosting the tenth edition of the World Islamic Economic Forum, as well as the MOCAfest 2014, but there’s not a lot you can do or see there, unless you are having a business. On Thursday and Friday, the second edition of Dubai World Hospitality Championship 2014 will be held at the Shekh Saeed Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre. But, let’s move on to something more exciting – Downtown Design 2014 runs from Tuesday till Friday at The Venue, Downtown Dubai. Besides architects and interior designers, the expo will gather a lot of enthusiasts, who are simply in love with beautiful traditional and modern furniture, lightning, unique home décor, and amazing technologies that will change the world we live in. The event is free if you register online, but will cost you AED 50 at the door.
Another interesting event, especially for the kids, is the Science Film Festival, which starts on 29th October in Children’s City, Creek Park. For seven days, the festival will present a wide international selection of scientific and educational films in both English and Arabic. There will be also games and scientific experiments on site which will further explain the ideas from the films. Entry for children is AED 10, while their parents will need to pay AED 15.
From Thursday till Saturday, bikers and motor fans will enjoy Gulf Bike Week at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. Mike Brewer from TV show “Wheeler Dealers” will be hosting the live action arena, there will be tons of stunts, bike start-up battles, custom bikes, and even the incredible Globe of Death. 15 bands will be playing on the two musical stages, while custom bikes will be competing, and of course, there will be a Thunder Parade, in which more than a thousand bikes will take the streets of Dubai for a massive and loud parade. Tickets are AED 65-200, so it’s a must-see for everyone who loves the speed and the roar of the engine.
Starting Thursday, Russian ballet dancers from the acclaimed Mariinsky Ballet and the Mikhailovsky Theatre of Saint Petersburg will be performing for three shows at the Madinat Theatre. They will present pieces of famous spectacles including Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadere, and many more. Tickets start from AED 325.
This week, Dubai fashion lovers can visit Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience 2014 at the Dubai Mall. The fashion and lifestyle event will be held for three day from Thursday till Saturday, and will feature not only catwalk shows from regional and international designers, but also fashion talks, and merchandise available for purchase. So, you can see and shop all the latest trends, as well as unique styles and limited-edition items. And entry is of course, free.
Another big event this week is probably the biggest music and dance event for the season. The famous outdoor dance party Sensation which has gathered millions of visitors around the world, will be held at Meydan Racecourse this Friday. There will be a special outdoor edition of the “Source of Light” show, all-night dancing, and music provided by stars such as Roger Sanchez, Matrin Garrix, Mr.White, Hard Rock Sofa, DJs AN21 and Max Vangeli.
Also on Friday, you can see Russian band Zemlyane at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, or head to the Dubai World Trade Center for the concert of one of the most popular Filipino male artists, Bamboo. But Friday is Halloween after all, so if you are not having guests, maybe you’ll be looking for a Halloween party, or at least, a scary and fun activity for the whole family. Emirates Golf Club will have one – Ghost Town Halloween Party with costume competition, games, dance shows, haunted rides and many more. The Contagion Run Dubai 2014 is a brand new concept for Dubai – it is a competition, where you choose to run to the finish as either alive of dead (in fact, the dead won’t be running but preventing runners from winning – zombies as you know aren’t particularly fast and lively). In addition, the Music Room will be hosting a Halloween masquerade where costumes will be required at the entrance. Several rock bands will keep the creepy mood.
And after a really rough Halloween, why don’t you enjoy some female rock music? The Iron Maidens are an all-female tribute band to the famous Brits and will present their unique versions of the classic hits of the world famous NWBHM band.
