The winner of the third annual Contemporary Majlis Competition was announced today at INDEX, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest and longest established Interiors and Design Exhibition in Dubai. Sinmar Al-Said of Internal Line Interior Design took first place in the competition beating five other finalists, all tasked with designing a traditional Majlis with a modern cutting edge and innovative design.

Al-Said’s design was chosen for covering all elements of a contemporary Majlis by incorporating innovative use of textiles, furnishings and lighting.

Sinmar Al-Said of Internal Line Interior Design said, “The entries have been fantastic and have raised the bar for the Contemporary Majlis Competition. We all brought our best to the competition and I am sure it was a really tough decision for the judges to choose a single winner. The competition was extremely challenging, yet a great experience and opportunity for me professionally and for my company, Internal Line Interior Design.”

The other finalist designers included Ghandour El Habre of Khatib & Alami, Mimi Shakashir of 2berose, Carrie Das of ahk International, Basak Yuksel of PF Emirates Interiors and Rania Mahmoud Hamed of Von Saldern Hamed Design JLT. Running for the third year in a row at INDEX, the competition’s six finalists were selected from over 70 designers across the globe based on the design layout and concept of their Majlis.

The jury panel members for this year’s competition were Elise Nassour, Head of Studio at the Engineers Office; Robert Reid of the American University of Sharjah; Dariush Zandi of Total Art; Jenny Eagle of Commercial Interior Design Magazine and last year’s competition winner, Rashida Rajkotwalla of Design Work Portfolio.

“The Contemporary Majlis Competition is a celebration of the Arab culture and a source of inspiration for the future designs of a Majlis. We would like to congratulate Sinmar Al-Said and all the other finalists for their dedication and unique approach to the designs, it was a difficult task to choose one winner,” said Elise Nassour, Head of Studio at the Engineers Office.

All designs for the Contemporary Majlis Competition are currently on display at INDEX until October 25, 2011 in Hall 1 of the Dubai World Trade Centre.
