A flurry of rumours have hit the web, hinting at the launch of a new miniature version of Apple’s latest slate, the iPad 3.

According to reports, Apple is keen on releasing an iPad Mini to fend of stiff competition from rival Amazon, who successfully entered the tablet market last year with the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Google tablet to launch in July

Gadget enthusiasts have been speculating about the 2012 release of the Google tablet for months. Now, sources close to the project say the iPad and Kindle competitor will debut in July.

The intensely rumored new tablet of now the world’s richest tech public company will be announced on Wednesday, March 7, according to “sources who have been reliable in the past”.

An Apple blog says it is confirmed that the iPad 3 will have a quad-core processor, but it is not certain whether the new device will have LTE compatibility.

“People familiar with the matter”, as it is cited on the web, said Apple was preparing an LTE version for the Verizon and AT&T networks in the US. Read more

Rival of Apple’s iPad to be released in October

Amazon plans to launch a tablet computer by October, that is seen by some market observers as rival of Apple’s iPad . The company’s entry into the tablet market was hinted by Chief Executive Jeff Bezos last week.

Amazon’s tablet will have an approximately nine-inch screen and will run on Google’s Android platform. Unlike the iPad , it won’t have a camera. While the pricing and distribution of the device are unclear, it was leaked out that the online retailer won’t design the initial tablet itself, but it is outsourcing production to an Asian manufacturer. RIM sets Launch Date for PlayBook Tablet

Research In Motion said Tuesday it will launch its PlayBook tablet in North America on April 19.

The PlayBook priced from $499 to $699 will join a handful of new tablets already on the market. The new device will be the latest rival to sector leader, Apple’s iPad.

Three models of the PlayBook will be available in more than 20,000 retail outlets, RIM said.

PlayBook retailers will begin accepting orders for the new product Tuesday.
